*SPECIAL NOTICES*

At their March 17, 2008 meeting, the Women Democrats of Sacramento County (WDSC) are hosting “The Bloomers.”  Open to the public and free of charge, this event commemorates Women’s History Month with a dialog between “Founding Mothers” Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton entitled “From Corsets and Bloomers to Body Piercing and Tattoos.”

“Bloomers” Renee Chanon and Nikki Harris bring the women’s rights movement to life in a 30-minute dialogue that is both educational and entertaining.  “From Corsets and Bloomers to Body Piercing and Tattoos” tells the story of the rebellion that started in Seneca Falls, New York, highlighting key figures and events and linking the story of the suffragists to today’s status of women’s rights and the current political scene.

The campaign to win the vote took over 72 years, involved thousands of women and men and was one of the longest and most dramatic political battles ever fought in the United States.  Inspired by idealism and grounded in sacrifice, the long struggle has great political and social significance, yet it is virtually unacknowledged in the chronicles of American history.

If you are a woman who wears pants, votes at election time, or signs a contract, you owe a debt to those who fought so long and hard for your rights.  If you are a man who proudly sends his daughter off to college, you also owe them.   Come and celebrate Women’s History Month with the Women Democrats and “The Bloomers.”
