RESTORATION OF CIVIL LIBERTIES
The Women Democrats of Sacramento County state our firm commitment to the protection of civil rights and civil liberties
for all. We call on the Democratic Party to embrace, defend and uphold the inalienable rights and fundamental liberties granted
under the United States and California Constitutions.
Furthermore, we call on our state and federal legislative delegations and all Democratic elected officials to actively
monitor the implementation of the USA PATRIOT ACT, any new executive orders,
or COINTELPRO-type regulations. It is our expectation
that they will actively work for the repeal of those portions that violate the guaranteed civil liberties in the Bill of Rights.
WOMENS' REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
The Women Democrats of Sacramento County unequivocally endorse every woman's right to privacy in determining her reproductive
health care needs, including the right to choose abortion, as decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in its landmark 1973 Roe v.
Wade decision and California's Reproductive Privacy Act of 2003.
We endorse other forms of reproductive health services that include, but are not limited to, the full range of birth control
contraceptives, tubal ligation, emergency contraception and vasectomy. We further support teaching age appropriate and medically
accurate sex education and HIV/AIDS classes in California's public schools.
Finally, we endorse all measures that ensure unfettered access to reproductive health care providers as well as measures
that ensure that those who prohibit access, or in other ways violate the rights of clients, providers and/or their staff,
will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
ENVIRONMENT
The Women Democrats of Sacramento County believe that under Democratic leadership in Sacramento much has been done to
restore and enhance the environment. However, much remains to be done to protect the beauty of our landscape and the health
of our people. WDSC supports and advocates for State and federal legislative efforts to reduce air, land and water pollution,
prevent new drilling off California coasts, promote non-polluting renewable energy sources and resources conservation, and
protect California forests and endangered animals and plants. We oppose all efforts to weaken or relax environmental regulations.
THE WORKING POOR
The Women Democrats of Sacramento County support and advocate for State and local efforts to institute wage protections
and benefits for low-income families and individuals. WDSC believes that for these Californians to be self sufficient and
to live in dignity, they must be assured a living wage, which either includes, or allows them to purchase, health care, child
care and housing.
HEALTH
The Women Democrats of Sacramento County support and advocate for national and State legislation to provide unrestricted
access to health care. We oppose all discrimination in access to health care coverage based upon age, ability to pay, disability,
ethnicity, gender, genetic characteristics, geographical location, pre-existing conditions, religion, residency requirements,
and sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that health care issues should be determined by individual need, not
by profit margins.
